Year 2H - Miss Hyde and Mrs Hodson 2020 - 2021
Who was the best Queen?
Welcome to Year 2H
Miss Hyde and Mrs Hodson
This half term we will be learning about Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth 1. We will also be linking this to the pacific ocean through the sea journeys of explorers in the time of Queen Elizabeth 1. Our topic questions are:
- What makes a great monarch?
- Who was Queen Elizabeth 1?
- Who was Queen Victoria?
- What lives in the pacific ocean?
Our famous person this half term is Queen Victoria and we will be looking at her life through the topic. Here are some facts about her:
Victoria became Queen of England in June 1837, when she was just 18 years old. Victoria and Albert had a nine children together. The Queen never recovered from Albert's death, and dressed in black as a sign of mourning for the rest of her life. There are lots of famous places and sites around the world named after this famous British Queen, such as the state of Queensland in Australia, Victoria Falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, the city of Victoria in Canada, and Victoria Square in Athens, Greece.
As a Rights Respecting School we will be looking at Article 7 in Year 2...
'I have the right to a name and nationality.'
The British value we are looking at is The Rule of Law:
PE kits have not to be brought into school this half term however children can wear their PE clothes to school. This should be a white tshirt and black jogging bottoms or leggings with trainers. The children should wear their school jumpers as normal. PE is on a Tuesday and Thursday.
Year 2 homework at the moment is reading at home. Please read with your child at least 3 times a week to support their learning in school.
