Welcome to Year 5A
Our topic this half term is the Mayans
and the question we will be asking is
Why where the Mayans magnificent?
As Readers & Writers we will use our skimming, scanning and comprehension skills to research about the different Mayan Gods and Goddesses. We will and create read non-fiction texts on the Ancient Mayans.
As Geographers we will look where the Mayans lived and locate it on the map. We will look at how Mayans managed to survive in the rainforest, including how its climate differs from ours. During our lessons we will look at a map of the Ancient Mayan civilisation and compare it to what remains today
As Mathematicians we will be working to solve calculations involving Mayan numeral system.
As Designers we will research how the Mayans built temples. We will design and build a 3D temple.
Skills As skilful people we will research and ask questions.
Technology As technical people we will develop our understanding of computer networks and how they offer a means of communication—email & blogging.
Aspirations As learners with high aspirations we will strive to do our best and gain an understanding of a different country.
Respect As respectful learners we will working effectively within a team when necessary.
The British Value we will be focusing on this half term is 'Mutual respect'
We will also focus on 'Rights Respecting ' Article 13 (freedom of expression)

Where and when did the Mayan civilisation begin?
Who did the Mayans worship?
Where the Mayans first to write?
Who discovered the Mayan civilisation?
Where the Mayans chocoholics?

We will be visited by a chocolatier on the 23rd of March.
We will be creating our 3D Mayan map and we will also be lookijg at the work of Frederick Catherwood.
his half term, the children will have outdoor learning every Tuesday. Please ensure they bring suitable clothing and footwear.
PE days - Dance - Monday, Gym - Thursday and Outdoor PE - Friday. PE kit is compulsory (White T-shirt, Black shorts/Jog pants and trainers/pumps)
