Personal Development

At Crosslee Community Primary School, personal development is a core pillar of our provision and central to our mission to help every child “Reach for the Stars.” We are committed to developing pupils who are confident, responsible, respectful, and ready for the next stage of their education and life beyond primary school. Our approach ensures that children receive a rich, coherent, and inclusive offer that supports their wider development.

We are committed to developing pupils who:

  • Are confident, resilient, and self‑aware

  • Show respect, kindness, and responsibility

  • Understand and value diversity

  • Are prepared for life in modern Britain

  • Can keep themselves physically and emotionally safe

  • Are ready for the next stage of their education

Crosslee is a welcoming, inclusive school where every child is valued. We celebrate the diversity of our community and ensure pupils develop respect for different cultures, beliefs, and identities. Our curriculum and wider experiences promote equality and challenge discrimination, helping children understand the importance of fairness, empathy, and social responsibility.

We intentionally nurture pupils’ character through a values‑led culture rooted in kindness, respect, responsibility, and collaboration. Children are taught to reflect on their actions, make positive choices, and develop resilience. They learn how to work with others, manage challenges, and contribute positively to their school and community.

Supporting emotional wellbeing is a priority. We teach pupils how to recognise and manage their emotions, build healthy relationships, and seek help when needed. Staff model positive behaviour and provide a safe, nurturing environment where children feel secure and able to express themselves. Our pastoral systems ensure that pupils receive timely support and that barriers to learning are addressed.

We offer a broad range of enrichment opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom. These include themed days, educational visits, and experiences that broaden horizons and raise aspirations. Pupils are encouraged to try new things, develop their talents, and discover interests that may shape their future pathways.

Through our curriculum, assemblies, and daily practice, pupils learn about democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect. They are taught how to keep themselves safe — including online — and how to make informed, responsible choices. We equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate the world confidently and safely.

(We provide meaningful opportunities for pupils to take on leadership roles and influence school life. Whether through the school council, eco‑initiatives, peer support, or classroom responsibilities, children learn to express their views, listen to others, and take pride in contributing to positive change.)

Personal development at Crosslee is not an isolated strand — it is embedded across the curriculum, pastoral systems, and school culture. Our approach ensures that all pupils, including those with additional needs, have equitable access to experiences that help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

At Crosslee Community Primary School, personal development is a reflection of our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, contribute, and reach for the stars
